Just beyond the northern end of Spianada, (Corfu town's main square), this palace formerly housed the British Lord High Commissioner of the Ionian Islands. Today it is occupied by the Museum of Asian Art and the Municipal Art Gallery.
It was built from 1819 to 1824 by British architect George Whitehmore in neoclassical design. This was the first building in this style to be built on Greek territory. Today, it is the home of the Corfu Museum of Asian Art and the Municipal Art Gallery. However, you can still see the palace’s grand original furniture and interior. The gardens are filled with Venetian stone aquariums, exotic trees and flowers and there is also the Art Cafe which has its own gallery.
